Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Managing Director and CEO, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, has reviewed advancements in the second phase of the Green Data Centre expansion at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Operated by Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, the facility holds the Guinness World Record as the largest solar-powered data centre globally.

Strategic Vision for Sustainability

Inaugurated in 2023 by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Green Data Centre aligns with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to position the UAE as a global leader in sustainability.

The centre forms a cornerstone of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to transition Dubai’s energy production to 100% clean energy by 2050.

Cutting-Edge Features

The carbon-neutral data centre, entirely powered by solar energy, spans 100,000 square metres with a planned capacity of 100 megawatts to be developed across 10 phases. It has earned the prestigious “Tier-III” certification from the Uptime Institute for its advanced capabilities and reliability.

Leadership’s Role in Development

Al Tayer was joined on his site visit by Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future; Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA; and Mohammed bin Sulaiman, CEO of Moro Hub.

Driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Equipped with Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and IoT, the centre supports hyper-scalers with carbon-free computing and aids organisations in minimising their carbon footprints. The integration of solar energy, AI systems, and energy storage technologies reflects a pioneering approach to sustainability in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure.

The Green Data Centre is set to play a vital role in fostering a sustainable ecosystem, enabling Dubai to advance its global standing in renewable energy and digital innovation.
