JinkoSolar, the global leading PV and ESS supplier, recently delivered the first SunTera Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Sub-Saharan Africa. The cutting-edge SunTera system was recently supplied to Lagos, Nigeria, where it will be installed as part of an ambitious solar project at the iconic National Theatre of Nigeria, located in Iganmu, Lagos State.
The project, designed and executed by Jinko Solar’s partner, Solarmate Engineering Limited, marks a significant step forward in Nigeria’s transition to sustainable energy. As the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Solarmate is overseeing the full design and development of the project, which combines a solar photovoltaic (PV) system with a battery energy storage solution.
The solarization of the National Theatre will utilize Jinko Solar’s high-performance products, including the all-black 425wp PV modules, ensuring a reliable and consistent supply of clean energy. The BESS component will feature a capacity of 2.0MW/4.8MWh, with the overall aim of enhancing energy efficiency and ensuring the National Theatre operates with minimal interruptions to power supply.
This innovative project aligns with the Nigerian government’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting clean energy and reducing carbon emissions. It stands as a powerful symbol of progress toward a more sustainable and energy-independent future for the country.
The project owner, Sanef Creatives Limited, in collaboration with Solarmate Engineering, is committed to completing this groundbreaking solar PV+BESS initiative, setting a precedent for future green energy projects across the region.
Jinko Solar is proud to be part of this visionary effort, leveraging its advanced solar technology to support Nigeria’s journey toward cleaner energy solutions.
